Pain Relief, Nutrition's Role And Resets

When it comes to pain relief and normal muscle function, nutrition plays an important role.

A lot of people say they eat healthy, but when questioned WHAT they eat, it's not always the case. There are many things we call food that can actually contribute to creating pain and inflammation in the body.

There's a lot of things in our western diets and lifestyles that can actually cause nutrient deficiency and thus have a negative effect on normal function of muscles, nerves, endocrine glands, etc.

Just being chronically stressed can cause your cortisol levels to remain high and that results in other organs not to function properly. For instance, the hypothalamus and pituitary glands that control many other functions can be thrown out of balance which can have a cascade of other health events including sleep disruption, high cholesterol counts as the liver function is disrupted and pancreatic dysfunction causing blood sugar levels to increase and even depression.

Magnesium and vitamins B12 & C are just a few of the essential nutrients that get used up quickly. The build up acids in the blood and tissues due to diet or lifestyle are one of the reasons you may feel pain or get cramps. If you are not constantly replacing minerals required to buffer those acids then you will become deficient very quickly. Our body does not make these, which is why they are call ESSENTIAL nutrients and therefore we need to ingest them daily. To prevent the loss of essential nutrients eating alkalising foods will assist to neutralise the acidity.

I have found that people who get results from your SLM treatments for pain and muscle dysfunction are those that have made the big changes.

It's important to eat a large variety of colourful nutrient dense plant foods and reduce the inflammatory

and acid forming foods. The World Health Organisation and many experts around the world now recommend at least 7-13 servings of a wide variety of fruits and vegetables per day to maintain a healthy body. So if you have problems you should be eating more than even that. If you are consuming inflammatory foods like over processed grains or lots of sugar, caffeine, alcohol you will need to either eliminate or reduce these and increase leafy greens and colourful fruits and vegetables.

Some foods for some people cause allergic reactions which can show up as muscle pain, gut pain, headaches or joint pain. These foods will make treating muscle dysfunction and pain management much more difficult. One client eliminated wheat based products and I could significantly feel the difference in their muscles and how they responded to treatment. That's how significantly a food allergy could affect your muscle function or any other organ.

Resetting the system can greatly speed up the process of pain relief results.

Resetting The Systems

Fasting is one way people have been able to reset their systems. The gut, liver, pancreas and gall bladder appreciate a break every now and again. Actually every 3 months is good. This has also been said to help clear brain fog. It allows built up toxins and wastes to clear out. In some spiritual circles it is used to reclaim control over the body and it's demands and cravings. Who's the boss? :)

Another form of reset is a 3-14 day juice and broth cleanse can help with resetting the systems. This is an easy way to eliminate certain foods to check for allergies or effects and then slowly re-intro each one to see how your body responds. Everyone is different so its a bit of trial and error, but you will see if a food makes you feel worse or better.

With resets be mindful that your body is eliminating toxins and you may feel tired around day 3-4 or even flu-like symptoms may start depending on how clogged up your body is. It is important to drink plenty of water to flush things out. Detox teas can assist as can exercise.

The whole process of feeding the body enough high quality and nutrient dense food can seem daunting and overwhelming in the beginning, especially for those that have not been so kind to their bodies, so making one small change daily or weekly can help create a whole new lifestyle one step at a time.

To your health
